I am brewing a 10 gallon batch this Sunday, January 15th at home. The club paid for half the ingredients and five gallons is going to the Club barrel to be used as top-off, five gallons will either be swapped out of the barrel, or go into my recently acquired 20 liter barrel. People are free to stop by, drink a beer, watch the process, yada, yada.

I'd like to participate in this if the top-offs are running low. I could brew the club recipe sometime in May. I was also talking to Kevin C. and I think he's going to be brewing the AABGBBBW for the Big Brew on May 1st, so he can get in line in front of me.

Anyone have any recent tasting notes?

Jeff - my concern with your suggestion is that we then have a 2.5 gallon airspace in the barrel. All of us who went in originally went in on the assumption that we were not going to get our original contribution back unless we emptied the barrel. At that time, assuming the barrel is full, you should get the full 7.5 gallons.

With all the recent talk about the Wine Barrel that is coming, for those who have subscribed to this forum, let's not forget the AABGBBBW.

Unlike the upcoming wine barrel, this one is ready to give and recieve. No waiting necessary. Simply brew up a full 5 gallon batch of fresh Barley Wine, and receive 4 gallons of a 4 year old blend. Folks, you can't get this in stores anywhere, and the flavor is truly amazing!

As I've written here before, I didn't really have a good idea of deposits and withdrawal when I proposed this project, but we seem to have developed a model by consensus, which is great.  So I think Mike should go ahead.

And, to make sure there is room in the barrel for his beer, I have a question.  When we first filled the barrel, everyone contributed five gallons except me.  I had a 7.75 gallon Sankey quarter barrel.  So under the evolved model, I'm thinking that I could now draw out 2.75 gallons less 20% angels' share, or 2.2 gallons, figuring that I already contributed the replacement at the beginning.

Any thoughts?

Jeff

On "subscribe" and "watch", here's a brief description from the support forum for the forum software:

watching topics simply creates a list that you can check on from time to time. say someone posted something that interested you, but you didnt have time at the moment to follow through. its really just flagging it for yourself as interested. great for a support forum like this where I can watch topics that I need to do some work on.

subscribing will cause an email to be sent to you each time someone posts to the topic.

I want  to brew another ABGBBBW batch - when the barrel is ready - if no one is ahead of me.

I have brewed a couple of batches - and want others to also have the oppertunity to pull off shares - so I am willing to wait for a lull in draws from the barrel.

I don't think that we ever decided on how often we could reasonbly draugh from the barrel - but based on how it tastes right now - I think that now would be a good time to make a withdrawl. (is their a spell checker in this thing?)

Anybody ahead of me?

Mike
